Change may be easy or hard. Convenient or overwhelming.
For me, it’s all coming at once this summer.
- We at Cru are looking forward to our new social platform coming soon. (Hooray for our tech folks who will take care of the details for us.)
- I just learned that the Pocket app I use daily is shutting down this summer. I have several months to export data.
- Fitbit is insisting I link up with Google in a few months.
- My private Google account indicates that it’s too full. I could pay for more space. I’ll delete files … again.
- I’m still changing passwords on my accounts because this private email address has been compromised.
- MailChimp has been sending regular emails to my inbox about changes to free automation.
Do the Mailchimp Changes on June 1st Impact You?
So, about those regular emails from Mailchimp … I’ve been too busy to give them more than an occasional read. Today, I realized the date for their changes is tomorrow (June 1, 2025), so I ran a Google search and discovered some information through AI.
Legacy
I’ll know more after the changes, but here’s what I discovered:
If you’ve already been using Mailchimp, you are a legacy Free Mailchimp user. You will still have access to the tools and features you were using. Most of us are not exceeding the limit of 12,000 emails per month. Follow the link for details on your audience size and mailing limitations.
If you send your prayer letter out through Mailchimp. You should not notice any differences.
I send emails automatically from my WordPress blogs. It looks as if those will continue.
When Mailchimp introduces new features now and in the future, we will need to upgrade to a paid plan to access that capability. For instance, using their SMS Marketing (see Brevo in NOTES) is only available with a paid monthly plan. It’s unclear whether upgrading would be a problem or not.
New Users
The free plan for new Mailchimp users (after June 1st) isn’t as generous. For instance, 1,000 is the limit for monthly emails.
New users also will not be able to create free “automations,” such as I’ve been doing from my blogs. The new term for this workflow is the paid “Customer Journey Builder.”
This is the best of my understanding. We’ll all find out tomorrow!
NOTES:
- Brevo is a competitor that offers SMS and WhatsApp campaigns as part of its free plan.
- I’m not sure this will be necessary for Legacy users, but this YouTuber suggests a way to automate sending a welcome email for free through Mailchimp.

Re hitting your Google storage limit:
How much is your time worth?
I’m guessing at least $20 / hour.
Save yourself the hour+ of deleting photo / video files and pay $19.99 / year to go from 15GB to 100GB and do something more valuable with your time.
