“Do you have a place to go for Easter Sunday?”
I had not seen my neighbor-friend, Jim, for several weeks. We crossed paths on Friday. I leaned on my walking poles while he sat in his wheelchair.
He answered enthusiastically that they would be in Tampa with family for Easter. We chatted for 40 minutes.
The next day, I also talked with two more neighbors about their Easter plans. I invited Lucy to our Easter service. She will text me to let me know if we can pick her up.
Our Open Door at Easter
Bringing up “Easter” during Lent is very easy and natural.
God brought to mind Revelation 3:8, “Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one can shut.”
Yes, I thought, the empty tomb is our open door for the gospel. It is wide open and cannot be shut. Evidence for Jesus’s resurrection is rock solid.
Will you join me in being more intentional about sharing our faith? Easter draws people to church services who otherwise wouldn’t go. It’s a great time to invite friends, neighbors, and co-workers.
Be open, as well, to sharing with people you encounter while running errands.
In Jeremiah 1: 7 – 8 (CSB), the Lord says, “Do not say, ‘I am only a youth,’ for you will go to everyone I send you to and speak whatever I tell you. Do not be afraid of anyone, for I will be with you to rescue you. This is the Lord’s declaration.”
How would you fill in the blank following “do not say?”
- I am too busy.
- I don’t know this person.
- I don’t know what to say.
Trust the Lord and step out in faith when He prompts you to talk with someone.
Read Charles Spurgeon’s thoughts on how every Christian should share their faith in my post, Say Something on God’s Behalf.
Reflect on what stories you could share with others about God’s work in your life. Share what God has been doing recently, not just your initial response to Him for salvation.
Easter Outreach Ideas
Do you see evidence that God is at work to draw people to Himself? Make a list of these people and pray for them. Trust God to use you to share your faith with them.
Download and use the JESUS Film app to share the gospel. This is easy. People are very responsive to putting this app on their phones. Read “Using the JESUS Film Project App to Share the Gospel” from the JESUS Film for how to do this.
Share your faith through social media and blog posts. See my post: Resurrect Your Old Easter Posts and Share Your Faith. Here are a few Easter posts you could share on social media:
- A Tale of Two Named Jesus by Judy Douglass
- With Every Burial, a Resurrection by Heather Holleman
- Don’t Stop Searching by Dayle Rogers
- Easter Can Be Hard by Dena Yohe
- When It’s Holy Week and You Don’t Feel Holy by Leslie Leyland Fields
- Is Forgiveness Easy? on MikeandSus.org by Mike Schmitt
I’d love to hear what opportunities God gives you to reach out to people this Easter season.
FREE Prayer Letter Ideas for Cru Staff
When we plan to mail our prayer letter at Easter, we write an evangelistic or devotional message. Sometimes, we send “how to share your faith” prayer letters before Easter.
Cru staff, follow the link to our list of Easter newsletters. You may adapt these for your use.
