Youth + Technology = Change the World

Recently, a friend was dismissing the importance of Facebook.  Later, his words kept coming back to me since I’ve seen personally the potential for ministry in social networks. You may also know the role of technology in the events in the Middle East, if not, take a minute to read Tim’s review of the cover article published in Time magazine on  February 28, 2011.  He includes an interesting map of the youth demographics of the area.  (Also, 54% consider television as their most trusted source of news.) Are you using social networking to grow your ministry and empower your disciples? … Continue reading Youth + Technology = Change the World

April – May 2011 Shared Reader

The bimonthly “e4e online newspaper” features a great selection of posts from Campus Crusade for Christ staff women and is one of our most-clicked sites.  I usually select up to five posts from the past two months and look for a theme. In this issue: • Leaha gives us a fresh look at faith and fear. • We can know Jesus for who He really is, especially through suffering. • What you could do if you feel “the body of Christ appears so lethargic and distracted?” • Learn about how you can help persecuted Christians. You’ll encourage our staff authors by visiting … Continue reading April – May 2011 Shared Reader

Facebook Stats and Your Ministry in 2011

If you use Facebook in any way for ministry, take a look at “Only 4% of Americans Under 50 Not on Facebook” from BizReport. Facebook currently has half a billion users from around the globe.  It’s a viable and significant place for ministry. If you oversee a website, then you’d be encouraged to know that 69% of users don’t cut their time on other websites because they’re on Facebook and 48% have intentionally clicked a Facebook ad (Learn about using Facebook ads from EveryStudent.com) If you just use Facebook with close friends, don’t overlook using the Like button to engage … Continue reading Facebook Stats and Your Ministry in 2011

Is Your Child Drowning in Media Entertainment?

“Jesus is the model for engaging people in conversation while doing real things.” This is a closing quote from an excellent and hopeful article on the effects of our entertainment-saturated culture on our children. Dr. Jeff Myers explains the brain’s function which  is supposed to give us satisfaction from work.  However, a child can become addicted to entertainment, receiving pleasure from accomplishing “nothing,” that is, game rewards.  God intended us to receive pleasure from work and from achieving goals. There’s hope, though.  Dr. Myers encourages parents to do real things with their children while engaging them in two-way conversation. I recommend … Continue reading Is Your Child Drowning in Media Entertainment?

Smartphone Lite

I found an entry-level phone, the LG Optimus T with Google, available for prepaid customers through the T-Mobile online store. It’s a $100 refurbished phone with Wi-Fi capability and 3G speed. Wi-Fi, which is all I can use without the data plan, actually runs faster than 3G and gives me the option to make calls using Wi-Fi when normal coverage is low.

It’s a very good phone for the money and comes with the latest Android 2.2. It’s affordable with a monthly plan, too, if you aren’t a prepaid customer like me and then you can use it as a tether hot spot as well.

Since T-Mobile is promoting 4G right now, that could explain the low and affordable price for this 3G phone. Continue reading Smartphone Lite

Circle of Moms Blog Contest

I never dreamed my blog could be featured to 6 million other blogging moms. So when I first heard of the Circle of Moms Top 25 contest I immediately ruled it out. Curiosity motivated me to glance at the other blogs in the contest where I saw the most high traffic blogs I know of. I thought, “No way, I would make a total fool of myself if I entered.” But then scrolling down there were some blogs with only a couple of votes. My courage increased as I thought of what an incredible ministry opportunity this could be to … Continue reading Circle of Moms Blog Contest
