Are you texting more with the lockdown for Covid-19? I hope my table of 100 Texting Abbreviations is helpful.
Very early texts were limited to 160 characters. To save costs per text, abbreviations helped texters send their messages in smaller packages. Obviously, typing on small phone keyboards and the need to shorten long words and phrases helped fuel texting abbreviations.
Popular Abbreviations
To get you started, here’s a brief list of common abbreviations and their meanings. See the table for the complete list of 100 abbreviations.
- 2MORO – Tomorrow
- FOMO – Fear of missing out
- IKR – I know, right
- IMO – In my opinion
- JK – Just kidding
- LMK – Let me know
- NP – No problem
- NVM – Never mind
- OFC – Of course
- ROFL – Rolling on the floor laughing
- TBH – To be honest

Here’s one list of French texting abbreviations (you can find more, of course).
Pimsleur gives proper usage with its list of Spanish texting abbreviations (jaja instead of LOL).
And a list of German texting abbreviations. (Now that’s a language which can really benefit from these! How about “hegl” instead of herzlichen Glückwunsch [congratulations]?)
