Using Technology in Bible Study

I’m not writing much today because I hope this video inspires you to consider how you might do something similar in your ministry.  So, I’m hoping YOU will write and let me know: if you are doing something similar or if this video  gets you thinking of something you might like to try with Facebook, Twitter, mobile phones, or some other technology. This additional video testimony for YouVersion is similar, but slightly different, too. Social Media and Your Ministry

It’s important for all of us to understand the incredible impact of social media on our lives and on our culture.

What is your “take away” from this video? For me, I’m remembering my first website was a static place where others could go for information. Now, my posts go to my potential readers instead of them going to the posts and … I hear from them even within seconds sometimes!

Have you looked seriously at your ministry through the lens of social networking? Are you and your disciples integrating your face-to-face connections with your virtual connections? Who are you trying to reach and what is the best way to reach them? Continue reading Social Media and Your Ministry

Redeeming Social Media by John Piper

Have you ever been in a discussion about the value of social media? Here’s what John Piper has to say:

“I see two kinds of response to social Internet media …

“One says: These media tend to shorten attention spans, weaken discursive reasoning, lure people away from Scripture and prayer, disembody relationships, feed the fires of narcissism, cater to the craving for attention, fill the world with drivel, shrink the soul’s capacity for greatness, and make us second-handers who comment on life when we ought to be living it. So boycott them and write books (not blogs) about the problem.

“The other response says: Yes, … but…, try to fill these media with as much provocative, reasonable, Bible-saturated, prayerful, relational, Christ-exalting, truth-driven, serious, creative pointers to true greatness as you can.”

I’m hoping you’ll take the time to read the rest of John Piper’s post on why Christians should take their message to all sorts of media. At least follow the link so you can read his example of a creative Tweet poem. Continue reading Redeeming Social Media by John Piper
